Two orphanages13-Jul-2007
Team: Medical - Ngozi
Today we went to two orphanages. In the morning we went to one orphanage with little children from 1 week old to 5 years old. Some of team had their hands full, playing with the older children. We had helped with feeding the infants and younger children. One of our interpreters was a young single man without experience with children, was so amazed that he held the children in his arms until they fell asleep after feeding them. We were also able to treat many of the children that were sick as well.

The second orphanage had children from 1 month to 16 years old. There were quite a few teenagers there who were orphans from the war in Burundi years ago. The children sang and danced for us when we first arrived. A few joined us as we drove to the evangelistic rally later that evening.

A Pocketknife And Some Band Aids12-Jul-2007
Team: Medical - Ngozi
Today the team went to the Twa village in Bujumbura. We had only the most basic medication and supplies with us. A woman was brought to the team dentist with a horrible, degenerative disease that eats away the facial tissue and leaves the victim with a gaping hole in the face. The doctor said we had to find a way to close the hole, but we had no scalpel or bandages and the equipment we did have was less than ideal. One of the team members had a pocket knife and the doctor managed to operate using only the knife and much prayers. The hole was closed and the team used gauze and simple Band Aids to dress the wound. We praise God for His provision out of nothing!

400 Patients and 5 Doctors10-Jul-2007
Team: Medical - Ngozi
Our clinic closes out today. This was the busiest day, seeing over 400 patients with only 5 doctors. Each patient seen was prayed for and the love of God was shared from when they were waiting for registration to the very end, where they picked up their prescribed medications in the pharmacy. It was a busy week seeing 1400 patients in 4 ½ days. Different outreach teams helped at the clinic ministering in different areas from counting pills in the pharmacy (planting seeds) to leading people to Christ (harvesting). Truly the scripture that says the sowing and reaping will occur together was seen in the clinic throughout the week. There was much unity with everyone who had worked together that the Lord was able to bless the work of our hands.

Salvation at a gas station08-Jul-2007
Team: Medical - Ngozi
We stopped for gas on the way back from the clinic. Some homeless street kids approached our van looking for money and food. The station attendant began to beat them with a hose to send them away. A team member approcached the kids with tracts and a crowd soon gathered. The team in the van began to sing Kirundi songs and the station attendant slowly turned toward us with shock on his face at hearing us sing in his native language. He was slowly drawn towards our van and we saw him mouthing the words. While he stood transfixed, the street kids began bowing thier heads as they accepted Christ, in the middle of a gas station. The team was singing praises all the way back to the hotel.
