Jr. High Ministry is a part of SYP that is specially designed for Jr. High students. It is a place where you have the freedom to come and be comfortable, expressing yourself in an environment that is just for you.

Jr. High Ministry may consist of the youngest people in the youth ministry, but it doesn’t mean we have to get lost in the mix! Who says church has to be boring? Not here! We have fun! Friends and fellowship, trips and outreaches, all geared to seventh and eighth graders just like you!

While we have many times of fun, the most important aspect of the Jr. High Ministry is Jesus Christ! It’s all about young people that want to go to the next level in Christ. These years, as you are becoming a teenager, are vital to the rest of your life, and growing up strong in the Word is important for everyone’s future.

We make sure that our focus remains being grounded in the truth of God’s Word. We get into the Bible every time we meet, and look to the Lord to take us to higher levels in Him. No matter your age, we encourage you to dive in and get soaked in His Word.

The book of Ruth is an amazing story of commitment and dedication, trials and testing, deliverance and freedom. Like other historical books in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit has placed this book within the Bible for more than historical benefit. He has placed within it, key elements and pictures that teach us today about our relationship with the true redeemer, Jesus Christ. Come out and join us as we study this incredible story.

Lesson 1 The short trip to Moab
The book of Ruth starts in the days of the judges, and in a time of famine. Sometimes God allows us into situations to teach us that we live by faith and not by sight. Elimelech and Naomi were in such a situation and faced with running or trusting God, they chose the former and worse of the two options. It was a decision that would ultimately cost Elimelech and his two sons their lives. They left Bethlehem (which means ‘the place of bread’) to go to Moab (which means ‘what father?’), not that Elimelech had decided to take his family away from the land of Israel permanently. Not a chance!! This was only going to be a ‘sojourn’ which means a brief stay. Not a great rebellion against God, but just a little dabble for a season in another land. Nothing wrong with that right? Or wrong?

Lesson 2 Counting the Cost
In the second half of Ruth Chapter 1, we meet Naomi's daughter-in-laws, Ruth and Orpah. In such dire circumstances, Ruth and Oprah are face with a decision; either they can stay home in Moab, or they can go with Naomi to Bethlehem. In this particular passage the land of Moab represents the world, and what the world has to offer; it is important to notice that Moab was a land that was filled with idolatry.

Bethlehem on the other hand represents what God has to offer. Oprah picks Moab, and Ruth chooses to got to Bethlehem with Naomi. After the decision is made, we never hear of Oprah again. However, life for Ruth begins to turn around. The world has nothing to offer but when we bring our tragedies to God, He orders our steps and brings a harvest

Lesson 3 Growing in Grace
After Ruth chooses to follow Naomi, she decides to go and find a field to glean. She happens to fall upon Boaz's field, who is a wealthy kinsman to her, which means redeemer. Boaz is a picture of Christ. He tells Ruth she has free access to his field, he will provide and protect her as long as she remains in his field. Boaz like Christ is gracious to us. Jesus desires to be gracious to us but he asks us to remain in his field in which we are saved.

Lesson 4 Gleaning in the field of Boaz
When Boaz finally speaks with Ruth, he goes above and beyond his duty as a kinsman redeemer. He didn't just do what was required by law, he went beyond that. Isn't that just like Jesus? He didn't just fulfill the law for a perfect sacrifice, He went above and beyond and invited us into His abundant life!

Lesson 5 Rewards through Surrender
The Lord encourages us to Wash: READ the Word; Anoint: (the word is Hebrew meaning a military mount) prepare for battle, Get dressed: Put on RIGHTEOUSNESS, and finally.. Go to the threshingfloor: HUMBLE yourself in the sight of the Lord. In vs. 8 we find that as we do these things, we're submitting our hearts to God and as we patiently wait for Him to move, He DOES!

Lesson 6 Boaz accepts the role of Kinsman
This week we continued the study of the Book of Ruth 3: 9-18. The story tells us of Ruth sleeping at the foot of Boaz at the threshing floor. Boaz is seen as a reedeemer and a symbol of Christ. And Ruth knowing that she needs to be redeemed, went to Boaz (Christ Jesus) at the threshing floor which is a place where the grains are seperated from it's chaff by wind. Wanting Christ means being seperated from the things of the world.

Lesson 7 Boaz redeems Ruth
Boaz knew all the circumstances involved in redeeming Ruth. Yet he chose to still redeem her. As a picture of Jesus Christ, Jesus knew all the circumstances involved in redeeming us. He knew that he would be beaten, mocked, rejected and be nailed to a cross. Yet the word of God tells us, for the joy set before him he endured the cross. Ruth had only one true redeemer willing to redeem her. Jesus Christ is our only true redeemer. He has already paid the price for our redemption.

Lesson 8 The Marriage of Boaz and Ruth
Everyone likes a story with a happy ending and that’s what we’ve got here! Ruth is finally free to marry Boaz and we read that not long after ‘the Lord enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son.’ But this story is not only about Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. It is also about our relationship with Jesus Christ. It is about our full redemption and what Jesus can do with us.
