Preparing the Way

Suicide Month Turns Out To be a Breeze
A staff team of three in charge of outreaches, security and communications was first to arrive in Zambia to prepare the way for the 210 people traveling to Zambia from Times Square Church for the crusade and outreaches. Our main concern at this point, was weather as we had been told that the month of October was the hottest month of the year and was commonly referred to as "suicide month." To our surprise, this description hardly seemed to fit the splendidly sunny, cloudless day that greeted us with a cool breeze blowing throughout it.  If this was "suicide month" what would they think of our ninety degree weather with ninety percent humidity of a New York City August? We saw the Lord's hand in this and thanked Him for blessing us already. Suicide month in Zambia was going to be a breeze! Now if we can only keep from sleeping all day so we can readjust our body clocks after almost two days of travel via London to Lusaka...the hotel seemed like heaven...

Spreading the Good News...
After resting for two days, we got to work making sure the billboards and banners were up around the city, the poster and handbills had been given to the churches for distribution, and the commercials were running on two radio stations and the only two local television channels. Sermons by Pastor Carter and Teresa Conlon had been airing twice a week since September. The team was happy to discover that people were being filled with the Word of God through these sermons and Pastor Carter's name was becoming familiar.

So Where Are These Outreaches Again?
A big part of the advance team's job was to finalize arrangement for all the outreaches our teams would do while in Lusaka, including prisons, orphanages, AIDS patients, nursing homes, hospitals, schools. The largest and most complex outreach is a free medical clinic to be held during the week of the crusade at the stadium where the crusade was being held. Tents had to be hired, paper work filed and schedules finalized. In every instance, the Lord seemed to be giving favor and making the way smooth.
